CAF Congratulates Ghana For Qualifying For Qatar 2022 World Cup

CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe has congratulated Ghana for sealing qualification to the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

Ghana held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday to seal qualification on the away goal rule.

Thomas Partey scored from a long drive to give the Black Stars the lead in the 10th minute before Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong equalized from the spot-kick in the 20th minute.

The draw means Ghana has secured a historic 4th FIFA World Cup tournament having participated in 2006, 2010, and 2014 in Germany.

Ghana joins Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco and Cameroon for the global showpiece.

“The President of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe congratulates Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia for qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“President Motsepe is also confident that these national teams will represent their countries and the African continent with distinction at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“The President of CAF is also confident that in the not so distant future an African Nation will win the FIFA World Cup.

“CAF is ready and committed to assisting and supporting, as best as it can, all the African Nations that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.”

Otto Addo becomes the first Ghanaian player ever to feature at the World Cup and also qualify the team to the tournament.

Following the qualification, Otto Addo also becomes the second ingenious coach to take Ghana to the tournament after Kwesi Appiah in 2014.

The 46-year-old replaced Milovan Rajevac who was sacked after a humiliating exit at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Meanwhile, England is considering playing Ghana in an international friendly ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
